Systems Engineering: Bridging the gap between agile and classic
09.09.2025
Projektbericht
For Diehl Defence, this was crucial to ensure transparency, traceability and system integration in a long-term, technologically demanding project.
Challenge
- Several interface partners and a long project duration required a flexible but robust system architecture to absorb technological changes and market dynamics.
- The lack of transparency in resource allocation between traditional and agile teams led to inefficiencies and lack of coordination.
- Without a structured systems engineering framework, full traceability across the entire development cycle became increasingly difficult.
Our Approach
- Through a scope and maturity analysis, project complexity, maturity and business readiness were defined across classic and agile teams.
- A target framework was developed that combines process models with gap-to-target logic and aligns agile increments with V-model deliverables.
- Systematic empowerment of teams through training, onboarding and iterative coaching of hybrid teams (classic & agile) using SE toolkits and agile rituals.
The result
- Introduction of a 12-week cycle with modular system architecture from concept to test, which achieved milestones 30% faster
- Coordination of over five sub-projects through clear roles and agile class handshakes, which reduced coordination effort by 40%
- Establishment of integrated agile SE workshops increased the stakeholder engagement score from 67% to 91% across all project phases
